Clichés truly do have a snarky little habit of ringing true. Which is probably why they so easily become part of our popular culture. And clarifies how our clichés are hatched.
So when the phrase “Every day is a gift. Untie your ribbon.” came across my radar, I found myself smiling.
For me, this phrase is a first cousin to the all-too-familiar “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.“ Or the proverbial favorite “Stop and smell the roses.“. But it was the word gift that captured my attention.
When we think of gifts, we think of special occasions. Birthdays, anniversaries, holiday celebrations. But there is so much to be said for the gift of an ordinary day. An ordinary Wednesday.
We may wake up and think the day will be pretty much the same as the day before. And the day after. Or maybe we are facing challenges, and we know we just have to power through the day. And hope tomorrow will be better. But no matter our situation, I have to wonder how our perception could change if we were to embrace each day as a gift.
One single day over the course of our lives, no matter how long or short our lives may be, really does have meaning. And if we look at that single day as if it was a treat, a treasure, something to cherish…I have to wonder how that could impact our tomorrow.
Falls under the category of “Great Things Do Come In Small Packages.”

This is so well put. Simple and to the point. If only the rest of the world would read this.
